HISTORY:
Birth
Kappatsu was born into a large family, with 5 brothers, and 6 sisters. He would’ve had a twin brother if he hadn’t died 2 minutes after birth. Because of how large the family is, each of his siblings had an allotted time to spend with their parents. The older you got the less time you got to spend, to maintain independence. Not only does he live with 11 siblings and his parents, his aunt and uncle, from his mother’s side, also lived with them. His entire family are blacksmiths, creating weapons for the shinobi villages.
Blacksmithing Part 1
At the age of 5, Kappatsu started to help around with the blacksmithing business. At his age he wasn’t allowed to hammer any of the metal, or work with the furnace. What he mainly did was clean up scraps and sticks them into a bin for later use, and out of boredom he organized the metal into piles of the same material, and of the same size. He enjoyed the work so much that he would fill in for his lazy sister who was 6, and brother who was 8. At night, when his entire family sleeps, he would sneak into the work place, and grab a sword that has yet to be sharpened, and started playing around, pretending to be taking on an entire group of enemies.
Deliveries
When Kappatsu was age 10, he would start making deliveries with his uncle to the shinobi villages that ordered the weapons. His uncle would always carry two swords that he made himself for personal use, to defeat bandits that would want the weapons. On one delivery too Sunagakure, they were attacked by 20 bandits, his uncle managed to beat 19 of them, but was badly injured by the boss. Scared, Kappatsu picked up the sword his uncle was using, the one that wasn’t broken, and challenged the bandit boss. Before Kappatsu had the chance to strike, his father suddenly showed up, and attacked the bandit boss.
Kappatsu complained to his father that he took his kill, but only once, knowing his father would have a few good words for this situation, like he did for every situation. He was thankful that his father showed up, he really wasn’t prepared to kill anyone. On their way home with his injured uncle, Kappatsu asked his father for some sword training. He received no answer from his father at that time.
Training Part 1
After returning home, his father left the next day to deliver the weapons once again. After his return 20 days later, Kappatsu’s father spoke with his mother. They have decided to have Kappatsu train in the way of the sword when he turns 11 next year. At that age, Kappatsu was really excited to learn how to properly use the sword. He has always been fascinated by swords, ever since he snuck into the workshop and played around with an unsharpened one.
His father explained to him: ”When fighting you must be ready to kill. If you are not, then you will be quickly defeat by a weaker opponent.” Kappatsu nodded at his fathers words. He was then told to remember what he was feeling that day when the bandits attacked. Kappatsu told his father that he felt more scared then anything else. He even realized that he wasn’t prepared to kill, so he could’ve gotten himself killed instead. Too prevent serious injury they trained with wooden training swords.
Blacksmithing part 2
At age 12, Kappatsu was allowed to pump the bellows for the furnace, to keep its heat up. Kappatsu didn’t really like this job, but to continue his sword training he was told that a swordsman must be able to handle any hardship and overcome it. He would continue working the bellows to overcome the strain it puts on his muscles. It took two weeks for him to pump the bellows faster, and another three weeks for kappatsu to start liking that job.
Training Part 2
While still working at the workshop, Kappatsu still worked on his training. Because of how hard he trained, he was finally allowed to train with real swords, though they haven’t been sharpened enough to do serious damage. He trained very hard, harder then anyone else in his family, that at age 14, he was finally able to start making his first sword. Even after training session was over, Kapptasu would once again sneak out and train in secret, to learn his own methods.
Sword Making
His first step was to choose a metal to make his sword from. Kappatsu had an idea in mind that can help him. He would base the metal on three grades. First being weight, how well can he hold the metal. Second, strength, how strong can the metal hold up to being struck with other metal. Third, personality, he doesn’t know why, but having been training hard for 3 years, he feels that each metal has its own personality, and he wants to find one that fits his own personality.
After looking over each type of metal that was placed in front of him, he has come to the conclusion of titanium. It is strong, light weight, and suits Kappatsu very well, even his father told him that. It was a long process, taking up to a month to make, mostly due to the titanium being more heat resistant then steel.
Student versus Master
After making his first sword, Kappatsu continued training for another two years. It was coming to the end of his training, and it was finally time, time for the student to fight the master. Kappatsu saw this day coming, where he would have to fight his own father. It was a tough battle, but thanks to all the training he’s done, including the ones he done in secret, he was able to defeat his father within three hours. His father was impressed with his skills.
Full Blacksmith
At the age of 18, Kappatsu would go out on deliveries alone. He enjoyed this part of the blacksmithing bussiness since he doesn't stay in one place for too long. On one of deliveries he got into a serious fight, that the titanium sword of his became so worn down, that it snapped in three pieces. When he returned home, he repaired his broken sword, and made another, giving him two swords to defend himself with.
Not only would he make the deliveries he would also make the weapons. His skills in smithing has already surpassed his uncle, and his older siblings. At age 19, Kappatsu's father died while returning home from a delivery. It was a sad day for the family, but just made Kappatsu want to surpass his father's skill in smithing more.
He still continues to train in the way of the sword, and continues to learn new smithing tricks to making more durable weapons. His skills have improved enough to where he worked in the workshop alone sometimes, and still produce good weaponry, just like his father, though his father would produce better weapons.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Titanium is 45% lighter, but just as strong as steel. It is also more heat resistant. He’s Chuunin Level, not chuunin, because of his skill with the sword, and him not being a ninja.
